The standard way to measure finger strength for rock climbing is to hang off a small edge with both hands and incrementally add weight to the body, until the climber finds their limit. This method can become an issue as it can require adding a lot of bulky and costly weights that are uncomfortable to wear.
I designed a device to directly measure the amount of force the climber pulls on a small edge training device. It utilizes an in-line loadcell connected to a microcontroller and screen that displays peak force and can graph force over time. Instead of hanging off the edge with both hands the climber uses this tool with one hand at a time, this allows for the climber to pull with maximal effort without leaving the ground and without the need to add extra weight.
